If the government can't avoid a shutdown, what happens to national parks?

The National Park Service encourages people to avoid going to parks, monuments and historic sites it manages if they close because of a shutdown.

Boulder Rural Fire Rescue firefighters responded on December 19 to a structural fire at the 2900 block of Sunshine Canyon. The blaze spread to over 18 acres and resulted in the evacuation of over 1,000 residents from the area.

With firefighter pay issue delayed to November, advocates aim for permanent solution

With a last-minute continuing resolution passed over the weekend, the feared wildland firefighter pay cliff has been kicked down the road to November. But with substantial pay cuts still looming, firefighter advocacy groups are going to push for a full, permanent fix, like the Wildland Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act, which enjoys substantial bipartisan support.

The Grand Canyon National Park entrance is blocked off, in Tusayan, Ariz., Oct. 8, 2013, because of a partial government shutdown. Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park and all five national parks in Utah will remain open if the U.S. government shuts down, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox say that the parks are important destinations and local communities depend on dollars from visitors.
