Ahead of what promises to be a spirited election cycle next year, the Larimer County Republican Party is working to get the word out about how the caucus system works. They鈥檒l hold two informational sessions this week.
Caucuses are neighborhood-level meetings that let voters help decide who ends up with their party鈥檚 nomination. But Jerry Patterson, Internal Vice Chairman with the , says many don鈥檛 really understand them, and don鈥檛 feel comfortable participating. He says the sessions are designed to answer questions鈥�
鈥淭here are a lot of changes coming up in 2012," Patterson notes. "February vs. March; there鈥檚 the possibility that all the precinct numbers could change if we move into the 2nd (Congressional) District here in Larimer County.鈥�
Following the lead of other states, Colorado Republicans will hold caucuses earlier than usual, February 7th 鈥� one day after Iowa鈥檚.
Patterson says many Coloradans echo the nationwide frustration with government, and he hopes the sessions will help remind people that with the caucuses, they have a voice in the direction of the state and the country.
Thursday鈥檚 session takes place at 6 pm at Ridgeview Classical Schools鈥� Performing Arts Center in Ft. Collins.
A second session will be held Saturday, 12/03 at 10:00 a.m. at Estes Park High School.
