Human remains found in burned home after fire grew slowly overnight
The Stone Canyon Fire didn’t grow much overnight, but has likely caused one fatality. Curtis Johnson, Boulder County Sheriff, said human remains were found in one burned residence.
The fire is currently burning across 1,320 acres. It was 0% contained as of Tuesday night. Fire crews spent Tuesday night trying to suppress the west and south sides of the fire, which are closest to the town of Lyons. That left most of the activity on the fire’s northern edge.
Johnson said he did not anticipate any more evacuations in or around Lyons today. He spoke this morning at a press conference in Lyons.
“We have a lot of resources here should things get hot and burning again,” Johnson said.
Officials believe five buildings have been burned by the Stone Canyon Fire so far, and plan to investigate more damage when it is safe to do so.
