The Cold Springs fire is now 100 percent contained. All areas are open for residents to return, and all mandatory evacuations have been lifted, though residents may not have electricity. Firefighters are mopping up areas and securing fire lines. Crews will continue to patrol within and around the burn area.
Authorities say the 528 acre fire, which burned primarily two miles northeast of Nederland, was sparked by an out-of-control campfire.
Residents returning to the Cold Springs Fire area should expect to encounter a variety of hazards that include fire-weakened trees, blowing ash and stump holes. Residents should exercise caution when walking around areas impacted by the Cold Springs Fire.

Authorities, meanwhile, have arrested and charged Jimmy Andrew Suggs, 28, and Zackary Ryan Kuykendall, 26, both of Alabama, in connection with the fire. They say the two failed to properly extinguish their campfire. Both have been charged with arson in the fourth degree, a felony charge.
Officials say lives were endangered as a result of the fire. Fire investigators and detectives with the Boulder Sheriff’s Office determined the two men were camping on private property near the Peak-to-Peak Highway and Cold Springs Road. The fire spread from the campsite, and was reported on Saturday afternoon.

A fire relief fund has been set up through Foothills United Way for the collection of financial donations to help residents impacted by the Cold Springs Fire.
