The first nonstop flight from Denver to Tokyo takes off from Denver International Airport Monday afternoon.
Economic development officials say the United Airlines flight to Japan鈥檚 capital will by $130 million annually through increased tourism and trade. DIA Aviation Manager Kim Day says Denver has been to begin the flights.
The state of Colorado is spending about $55,000 to send five officials on the inaugural trip to Tokyo. They include Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and state tourism director Al White, as well as officials from the Governor鈥檚 office and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
A delegation of about 70 leaders in education and business are taking the flight over the next two days. The Boeing Dreamliner 787 should reach Tokyo鈥檚 Narita Airport in 11 hours.
