Gas prices in Colorado currently average $3.30 a gallon. That鈥檚 about a quarter less than the national rate of $3.55 a gallon according to the gasoline pricing website
The recent 13.3 cents a gallon price spike in Colorado is outpacing the national increase of 5.7 cents. Including the recent hike in price, a gallon of gas costs about 26.5 cents more now than it did a year ago and 47 cents more than a month ago.
Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski says Winter Storm 鈥楴emo鈥� that hit the east coast last week seems to have flattened out the rate of increase for prices in the Northeast but that's not affecting western states.
"On the west coast motorists are less fortunate. With western refineries producing at 75% capacity, less than any other region, California has seen its average price increase by 14 cents per gallon over the past week; doubling the rate of increase over the same period for the rest of the country,鈥� says Gregg Laskoski.
The national average for gasoline is up just 7.2 cents per gallon from a year ago and is 28.2 cents higher than last month.
