About 77 percent of Colorado鈥檚 3.1 million registered voters turned in ballots as of 3 p.m. today. Here are some interesting details about those early voters:
- Unaffiliated voters are either dragging their feet until the last second (or a large number may not vote at all). About 68 percent of unaffiliated returned their ballots as of early today or by mail in the weeks leading up to Election Day. That compares with 84 percent of Republicans and 80 percent of Democrats.
- As of this morning, about 120,000 more women had voted than men.
- Of third parties, Libertarians number the most. About 24,800 Libertarians have so far turned in ballots. The next highest third party groups are the Greens (7,002 ballots returned) and American Constitution (5,930).
- In all, as of 3 p.m., more than 2.4 million ballots have been returned by Coloradans. The office for the state鈥檚 chief election official, Wayne Williams, predicts that at least 2.7 million people will vote by the end of the day. That could mean a long night of counting for some counties, according to Secretary of State Office spokeswoman Lynn Bartles.
