MSNBC's newest opinion host is the Rev. Al Sharpton, a figure much better known for a past in which he cast more heat than light. With his new job, Sharpton is now on his third act in public life: from a civil rights activist to a player in the Democratic Party to, now, a cable talk show host.

Steve Inskeep talks to Eric Deggans, TV and media critic for the Tampa Bay Times, about how media outlets are emphasizing different aspects of the Trayvon Martin story to grab the attention of particular audiences. Martin is the Florida teen who was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer in February.

The exhibit at Emory University in Atlanta lays out the history of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a group first presided over by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The group tackled issues of health care, poverty and gun violence 鈥� issues still seen as relevant today.

Monday's inaugural ceremonies were smaller and a little more subdued than President Obama's historic celebration four years ago. The coincidence of the King holiday, in the year that marks the 150th anniversary of emancipation, made civil rights a theme throughout the day's events.
