Colorado Ranked 8th Most Impacted By Shutdown

The government shutdown on all 50 states – but some have it worse than others. A new report that ranks states by impact places Colorado near the top of the list.

When it comes to the impact of the shutdown, not all states are affected equally. The report, from the online social network looked at government data for each state, including the number of federal employees, Social Security recipients, and veterans.

It’s no surprise that Colorado is in the top 10, says publisher Chris Wood.

"We know that Colorado has one of the highest concentrations of federal workers in the country outside of Washington D.C.," Wood says. "Many of those employees are at the Denver Federal Center, while others are scattered at federal laboratories and military bases across the state."

Thousands of - including more than 3,600 in Boulder County who work at federal research labs such as NOAA.

Virginia was ranked as the No. 1 state most affected by the shutdown. Iowa was ranked as the least-affected state.
