Colorado Mountain College Singled Out For Low Tuition

As college tuition rates rise across the nation, one school in Colorado is managing to keep tuition low.

That school is . The CMC as the third most affordable 4-year public school in the country.

“You hear so many stories about how expansive college has become and we thought that this was good news to share,” said Debbie Crawford, a spokeswoman for the school.

Crawford says Colorado Mountain College was able to weather deep state budget cuts during the recession and keep tuition low because most of its funding comes from local property taxes.

“We’ve been doing our best to hold the line and not let our budget grow,” said Crawford.

Colorado Mountain College is not the cheapest school compared to two- year institutions in the state, ranking in the middle of affordability. Meanwhile the U.S. Department of Education report says the Colorado School of Mines has one of the highest tuition rates in the country for public four-year schools, about double the national average.
