It鈥檚 no April Fool鈥檚 joke 鈥� enforcement of a smoking ban on Boulder鈥檚 Pearl Street Mall takes effect on Monday, April 1st.
Citing public health and air quality issues, the smoking ban was approved last December for a four block stretch of the popular pedestrian mall and the Boulder County Courthouse. It went into effect on January 18th, but 鈥渘o smoking鈥� signs were not posted until last week.
Boulder police have discretion inpreferring to educate first, but a $500.00 fine could be imposed for a first or second offense within a two year period. A $1,000.00 fine and a 90-day jail sentence is possible for a third offense within a two year period.
